An Attitude of Gratitude | Pastor Mark Garrett

In his sermon “Attitude of Gratitude,” Pastor Mark Garrett explores the importance of maintaining a grateful mindset in our daily lives. He reminds us that our attitude is the only thing we truly have control over, and the Bible calls us to renew our thinking regularly (Eph 4:21-24, Phil 4:8).

He encouraged us to practice gratitude daily, starting each day by finding something we’re thankful for. This could be as simple as appreciating a kind teacher or a thoughtful store clerk. Expressing this gratitude to them later can make a world of difference.

Pastor Mark emphasized that gratitude is the only reasonable response to God’s love and faithfulness, referencing 2 Peter 1:3 to highlight that there’s no secret knowledge or better way – the truth is available to everyone through knowing God.

The more we get to know the Lord (John 17:3), the more we’ll act like Him, taking on His divine nature. Pastor Mark also discusses Psalm 103:1-5, a great reminder of all of the good things God has done for us.

Pastor Mark insists that Christ is in control of our circumstances and is our source of joy. He encouraged us to pray throughout the day, especially during unexpected situations, and to give thanks in everything. This should be our first response, in light of Romans 8:28.

He concludes the sermon by mentioning three habits that should be the standing order of the church, inviting us to enter God’s gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise (Psalm 100:4) as well as giving the sacrifice of praise (Hebrews 13:15).

Garrett ends with a powerful note, urging us to read the Bible daily to understand God’s will. He emphasizes the gifts of salvation and belonging we have received through Jesus. No matter what we face today, it pales in comparison to Jesus’ sacrifice for us. God’s goodness and love for us should never be questioned, making gratitude a natural response.
